Oh, thinkin' about our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free
Now nothin' can take you away from me
We've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more
Baby, you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in Heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in Heaven
Oh, once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down
Yeah, nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh, there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
Cause our love will light the way
And baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm finding it hard to believe
We're in Heaven
Yeah, love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in Heaven, yeah
I've been waitin' for so long
For somethin' to arrive
For love to come along
Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Yeah, I'll be standin' there by you
And baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in Heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in Heaven, Heaven, woah
You're all that I want
You're all that I need
The song “Heaven”, sung and recorded (in 1983) by Canadian singer Bryan Adams, was written by him in partnership with Jim Vallance. According to the latter, the track by the band Jouney called “Faithfully”, was the source of inspiration for this song. The singer played over a hundred dates with Journey as the headliner on their Frontiers Tour. During the recording of "Heaven", as Bryan Adams' drummer Mickey Curry was unavailable to record and the song's recording session was running behind schedule. Adams contacted Journey drummer Steve Smith, who agreed to participate as a drummer.
It was also in 1983 that “Heaven” was part of the soundtrack of the film “A Night in Heaven” by John G. Avildsen and in 1985, it had a huge success in Brazil for being part of the international soundtrack of the soap opera shown by TV Globe , “A Gata Ate”, by Ivani Ribeiro.
Bryan Adams had doubts whether or not "Heaven" would be a suitable song for his fourth studio album, Reckless, doubts that were also felt by producer Jimmy Iovine who thought the song was too 'light' for the album, having even suggested to the singer that he include it. But at the last moment, Bryan Adams changed his mind including it, this being the third single, released on April 9, 1985.
“Heaven” was one of the Canadian singer-songwriter's most successful songs. It ranked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold in Canada in 1985. It peaked at number nine on the Billboard Top Tracks chart in February 1984; No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, No. 27 on Top Rock Tracks; the twelfth on the Adult Contemporary chart, being Adams second single to reach that chart after "Straight from the Heart" in 1983; number eleven on the RPM Singles Chart in Canada. "Heaven" was also released in Australia, Europe and New Zealand in 1985, reaching number 38 in the United Kingdom and Adams first hit in several countries in continental Europe. It also reached the top 10 in Sweden and Norway and the top 20 in Austria, Ireland, Switzerland and Sweden.
Two video clips of the song were made. One was performed by Steve Barron, shot on the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Lysette Anthony and Garwin Sanford participated in this video. The second video was shot in London, England, and shows Adams singing the song in a live show, accompanied by his band appearing behind him on stacked video monitors and in the end, it all turns out to be Adams dream. The video was nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards in the “Best Cinematography” category.
“Heaven” was adopted in a Eurodance version, by DJ Sammy and Yanou feat, in 2001, having acquired a great success.
